WHAT IS A DISCIPLESHIP PATHWAY?

The discipleship pathway is an open invitation to grow in faith and discover life with Jesus. It’s not a checklist or a race—it’s an ongoing adventure of learning, growing, and living out faith in everyday life.

You can start wherever you are—First Steps, Discover, Deepen, Deploy—and move around the pathway in whatever order makes sense for your journey. The goal is simple: helping each of us take the next step towards trusting and following Jesus, no matter where we’re beginning.

Gather

At WMB, we believe gathering is a vital response to God’s love for us. When we come together—on Sundays, online, or at special events—we worship, learn, and are renewed in His presence. Gathering also means building community with one another. Whether through services, groups, or shared experiences, we come alongside each other to encourage, inspire, and grow as disciples of Jesus—shaped not just for ourselves, but to help others follow Him too.

Examples: Sunday Services, Home & Focus Groups, Youth Nights and Weekly Rhythms.

Grow

Growing together means committing to follow Jesus both personally and as a community. Each of us takes intentional steps to deepen our faith, while encouraging others on their journey. As we grow together, we become a family firmly rooted in Christ, supporting and pointing one another to Him. This happens as we engage with Jesus through Bible study, prayer, worship, Home Groups, discipleship courses, mentorship, and other spiritual practices that help us follow Him more faithfully.

Examples: Essential Courses, Home Groups & Focus Groups, Generational Ministries, and Women’s Bible Study.

Serve

Serving together means using the time, gifts, and abilities God has entrusted to us to bless others and advance His mission. When we serve, we not only meet real needs in our church and community, we also demonstrate where our hearts are—invested in God and His work. Serving happens in many ways: through our ministries and volunteer opportunities, within Home Groups, and at larger church events like conferences, local mission opportunities, and celebrations—where everyone has a chance to step in and make a difference.

Examples: Hospitality Ministry, Kids Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and Clothing/Food/Toy drives and fundraising opportunities within the local community.

Go

Going together means following the Spirit’s lead to live missionally in our everyday lives—at home, at work, in our city, and beyond. It’s about building relationships, inviting others into community, and sharing the love and message of Jesus through both ordinary life and special events. Whether through Home Group gatherings, local outreach, or partnerships with other ministries, we aim to create a culture where every member steps out to live on mission, together.

Examples: Prayer walk training in their own neighbourhoods, Global Missions, Local Agency Partnerships, and serving in our local community.

Next Steps

You don’t have to begin in the same place as everyone else. Whether you’re taking First Steps, exploring in Discover, growing Deeper, or being sent to Deploy, the pathway is flexible for your journey. The purpose is simple: to keep encouraging each of us toward greater trust and obedience to Jesus.

Through welcoming events, opportunities to meet others, and simple ways to learn more about who we are, First Steps gives you space to connect, belong, and discover what following Jesus looks like in community. Whether it’s a BBQ, a skate night, or Newcomers Lunch, there’s always an easy next step waiting for you.

    Some examples of First Steps at WMB are:

    • Alpha 

    • This is WMB/KMB Newcomer Lunches 

    • Touch Point Events (ie. Church BBQ, Youth Social Events, etc.)

  • Curious about who Jesus is or wanting to grow deeper in your faith? Discover Steps offers courses and resources that help you explore the basics of Christianity and what it means to follow Jesus. From Alpha to baptism classes, spiritual gifts workshops, and recommended resources, these opportunities give you space to learn, ask questions, and take meaningful steps toward living out your faith in everyday life.

    Some examples of Discover Steps at WMB are:

  • Ready to go further in your journey with Jesus? Deepen Steps are courses, groups, and gatherings that help you build strong everyday rhythms of prayer, Scripture, and serving others. They help you to think biblically about the world around you. These opportunities invite you to grow in character, discover spiritual practices, and be equipped to live out your faith in every part of life. From Bible studies and discipleship training to gatherings and practical courses, Deepen Steps give you space to deepen your roots and walk closely with Jesus.

    Some examples of Deepen Steps at WMB are:

    • Soul Care triads 

    • Home Group Leadership Training 

  • Faith was never meant to stay within four walls. Deploy Steps are opportunities to join God in sharing His love—in our neighbourhoods, across Canada, and around the world. Whether it’s serving locally, hosting a BBQ to connect with your neighbours, joining a short-term mission team, or learning how to share your faith in everyday life, Deploy Steps help you live out the good news of Jesus in practical, Spirit-led ways.

    Some examples of Deploy Steps at WMB are:

    • Short Term Missions trips

    • Spiritual Gifts Course 

    • Home Group serving opportunities 

    • Equipping and mobilizing sessions with Agency partners 

    • An invitation to actively participate in Barnabas Missions as we serve our local neighborhood
